Domaine La Lauzeta, Jauzimen Rosé Saint-Chinian 16.5

Only just pink – this is so pale I had to examine in carefully in several different lights to establish that it is not a deep-coloured white. First-ever wine made by Englishman Tom Hills.  45% Cinsault, 40% Grenache, 15% Syrah on schist in the far north of the appellation. In certified organic conversion. Their biggest production at 9,500 bottles. Free sulphur just 13mg/l! Pure as a mountain stream.

Lovely smooth fruit and a certain light smokiness (hints of Provence) but with the muscular tang of St-Chinian schist. Admirably long.

Quite a find!

The Estate

Established in 2015, Domaine La Lauzeta presides over long- established vineyards on the schist foothills of the Espinouse and Caroux mountains in the north of the Saint-Chinian appellation. The estate runs a small winery in a rented garage in the nearby village of Saint-Nazaire-de-Ladarez.

The Wines

Today we are making wine from around 8 hectares of the estate.

We make three reds and a rosé, with a white planned in a few year's time as the new plantation of Vermentino (Rolle) beds in. The rosé, Jauzimen, and entry level red, Corteza, are both in AOP Saint-Chinian, while we also produce two cuvées, La Lauzeta and Mezura, in AOP Saint-Chinian Roquebrun, a small cru within the appellation with more stringent rules on yield and ageing.
